Both Sides, Now

My sister and I have been watching a movie a day in order to 'escape' from the world for a while. Today we watched a classic teen flick. Tomorrow, I'm definitely feeling some Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy.

I can never seem to get enough of this movie. Or of lines like this:

You must know… surely, you must know it was all for you. You are too generous to trifle with me. I believe you spoke with my aunt last night, and it has taught me to hope as I’d scarcely allowed myself before. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on. ~Mr. Darcy

I'm still coping with grief. I'm officially at the guilt/bargaining/denial stage right now. I'm still trying to just get through every day without crying. Things are getting a little better. I'm trying to stay focused on that...

I hope everyone is doing well.

Why'd You Go And Do It?

I found out today that a guy from one of my classes committed suicide this past week. I am still in shock. He was well loved in class, very outgoing, funny, and always going out of his way to make you smile. And now he's gone.

It's not that I knew him that well. I didn't.

But somehow, knowing that he's gone, forever, makes me want to cry. And now, I'll always associate him and his death with my sociology class. It's heartbreaking.

I wish I had tried harder to get to know him. I wish I had made more of an effort to let him know how amazing I thought he was. And how I felt like a 16 year old, butterflies and all, when he would talk to me. But I guess that's one thing I'll never be able to do. I'll never get that opportunity back. But from now on, I'm going to just go for it when I want to get to know someone. I'm not going to wait on them. Because even if I wasn't able to impact this one person's life, maybe I can help someone else realize how loved and appreciated they are...

At the end of the day, at least I know I will miss him. And I hope that somehow, wherever he is now, he knows it too.

Much love,

Kaitlyn

Friday Song

I apologize in advance if you don't like country. But in all seriousness, this song is amazing. I grew up on artists like this. Thanks to my Daddy :).

And...this is definitely an honest song.

It makes ya think, don't it?

A Night Out With My Girls

As most of you are already aware, I went to a Camera Obscura concert last Friday. It was, in a word, amazing. They were so much better in person than I ever imagined they would be.

And the show was so different from the usual venues I seem to haunt. No screaming fans or stage rushing. No pushing or shoving. No "in crowd" teenagers looking down their noses at you. It was definitely a nice change, way more relaxed and mellow than the other shows I've been to (ahem: All Time Low). ;)

I must admit I was a little bit nervous about going to Emo's late at night, but I just decided to go for it. And, boy, am I glad I did. Everything about that night is all that I want my life to be about from now on.

I'm still glowing, two days later.

And still teasing my sisters about their big, giant X's. Which I didn't have to get. Mwahahaha. I just have a teensy little smudge on the inside of my right wrist. Words unintelligible. Courtesy of my late birthday :).

I'm still slightly drained from that night; I've been dragging since yesterday. Which is probably why I'm feeling so overwhelmed by the sheer amount of homework I have to get done for the next two days. TONIGHT. Seriously, if I can just get through the next two days, I'll be home free. *sigh*

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Did you do anything fun? Gotta go.

Much love,

Kaitlyn

P.S. Be sure to check out my sister Callie's blog for an amazing post about the concert and Camera Obscura and my sister Jessica's blog for pictures from that night :).

Uh huh, mhm. Gonna get along without you now.

Dear ____(insert boy's name here)____ ,

Thank you for helping me to feel desired, appreciated, fun (to be around), and beautiful.
But here's the thing: I'm OVER you now.
I'm ready to meet someone new!

Peace out,
Kaitlyn

People come by and they look at your face, and they say it's the fairest of all...

I've been feeling pretty down lately. When I start feeling bad I start picking myself and my appearance apart. It's horrible and it's hard to stop. My sister Jessica showed me this website tonight and frankly, it's amazing. I am going to take part.

According to Caitlin, the creator:
The goal of Operation Beautiful is to "end negative self-talk or 'Fat Talk'. If this little blog only does one productive thing, I hope it helps readers realize how truly toxic negative self-talk is-- it hurts you emotionally, spiritually, and physically."

I vow (from now on) to stop critiquing myself.
I am beautiful.
And unique.
And me.
I don't want to be anyone else.

Be sure to check out Operation Beautiful.
Because truly, we "are enough...just the way [we] are!"

With much love,
Kaitlyn

We're All Part Of The Same Sick Little Games

"All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another."
~Anatole France
Truer words were never spoken.
It's time for a new year.
As the older (and more experienced) me.
So it begins...

I'm Comin' Up

So.
Last night my mom had a party at our house.
Which was fine and dandy for her.
But, as for my sisters and I, it was a different story.
We were bored.
We had to get out...

J: Ugh, this is so boring. Let's go see a movie?!
C: I wish.
Me: Pero, no tenemos dinero.
J: Well, let's go do something crazy!!
Me: Like...?
J: Um...
C: Hey, let's go to Barnes and Noble.

And so that's what we did.
We got all dolled up and went out.
We blasted music on the drive over there.
We found magazines and books to look at and laugh at together.
We found a table to sit at (in the kid's section) and read our way slowly through the night.

It was grand :).
I know you're super jealous of our night out.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. Sunday is my birthday so I'm gearing up for that.

I hate having Easter birthdays. This is the second stinkin' time this has happened to me. :(

Oh well.
Do you have any fun plans??
See you soon.
