Why does it rain?

Right now I feel like this:There's so much on my plate and I worry whether I'll get it all accomplished in time.
I need to remember to do this:

Because things can always get better.

Today's Song: "Utopia" by one of my favorite bands of all time, Within Temptation. I love Sharon's voice here, especially.

Yes, I do in fact listen to "catchy" and "popular" music. As long as it's good...

So, yeah. I had THE hugest musical crush on Nelly in middle school. It's partly because of the environment I spent time in (school, friends, the YS) but also because he's just so darned catchy. And musically talented. haha. Hey, now! No hatin'! ;) I heard his newest song on our local Mix Station a few weeks ago and flipped out, I mean flipped out (and maybe slightly swerved. a little. because I was driving XP). I was so excited! I turned up the radio as loud as I could and experienced complete happiness as I realized that yes, indeed, his newest hit was in fact worth bragging about!

And now because I really feel the need, you can listen to him too. :)

Ahhhhh.

So perfect.

So perfect.

And...yes. I can in fact sing his older songs from memory. Just in case you were wondering? ;)

Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday Tunes

My sister Callie first introduced me to this fabulous duo a few years back. And yes, I must admit that during that "punk rock stage of my life," the talented and hauntingly beautiful First Aid Kit just really wasn't doing it for me.

But now?
I... can't get enough of them.
They're sisters too. :)
How cool is that?

One of my favorites ever:
"I Met Up With The King"

And another of my favorites (live too):
"In The Morning"

So watcha think?

I hope you're all having a great week.

Happy Tuesday!

Meet The Forecast.
{via}

We've had an ongoing relationship since I first heard this beauty:
"Some Things Never Change"

(check out the real video please! it's better x a gazillion :D.)

Which was quickly followed by this one:
"And We All Return To Our Roots"

(again with the real video)

They're pretty fantastic.
Don't you agree?

Happy Tuesday ya'll!

Celebrate my life

[post-dancing, my friend Jennie and me]

As most of you know, I just started my new job last week. Well, this week marked the first week of "officially" working with the kiddos, in more of a classroom setting. Basically, my job is awesome. You can be jealous; it's okay. ;)

I've been really busy the past two weeks what with starting my new job, ending my old job, getting ready for school, starting school, and trying to also maintain a bit of a social life.

The past two weeks were a little like this:
  • Swimming, swimming, and more swimming
  • Swing dancing to some live jazz downtown (see photo :])
  • Homemade spaghetti dinner with my coworkers at their apartment- yum!
  • Lunch with my boss and coworkers (surprisingly really fun)
  • Enjoying the last of the summer sun
  • Getting a slight sunburn because of said summer sun
  • Lots of iced chais
  • Lots of chocolate
  • Finding some great sales and buying cute things
  • Buying my very first car!! (with my own money)
  • Driving my very first car
  • Fixing up my very first car (thanks, Dad!)
  • Registering my very first car with the tax office (yikes!)
  • Getting to know some fantastic boys at work :) (I love my job)
  • Spending some time with my good friend, R
  • Scott Pilgrim with R for his birthday
  • Girls night out with my sisters: French food and Eat Pray Love :)
  • Starting classes
  • Surviving my first week of classes
  • Freckle multiplication
  • And listening to loads of great music

That's pretty much what's been going on here with me, Baloney.

What have you all been up to? Anything fun?

It's time to hit the hay now, but first...

Today's Song: "Someday" by Sugar Ray. Seriously, I'm a 90's rock kinda girl. Probably because I grew up listening to this music? And this song just fits right now.

Happy Friday!

Have a great weekend all.

See you soon.

Maybe this time

I started working at my "real" job this week.

I'll be working as a recess monitor, teacher's aide, and after school provider at a private all boys school here in town.
Which is apparently a good thing because, as you can see, I get along so well with my friend J.T. ;).
I've spent a lot of my young adult life working with kids professionally and as an on-the-side kind of job (like this summer). When my cousin-in-law informed me that the school she had just gotten hired at was still looking for workers I jumped at the opportunity. I contacted the provider, was interviewed, and got hired almost on the spot. That was back in May.

So I've had the whole summer to think and stress about this job. Which, apparently, was all for nothing. The past two days have been great. The staff is like one huge family and everyone has been incredibly helpful and understanding as I've been trying to find my way. I really like the team that I'm going to be working with too. And the food. Oh, gosh. The food. It's all homemade. Which in itself is incredible. They also have a full vegetarian option for the staff (another plus). And yesterday they served ice cream sundaes to kick off the school year!! Yuuuummmm. If the first few hours at work hadn't convinced me how lucky I was to have this job, the ice cream definitely would have won me over alone. But I digress. I didn't get on here to gush about my job (or did I?). ;)

*subject change* I almost never carry prepackaged water bottles with me. It's such an unnecessary waste in my opinion, of both money and natural resources to purchase those bottles on a regular basis. Anyways, this past weekend I took my large pink plastic bottle out in the sun with me. Boy, was that a mistake. I mean, it might not have been that bad, had I not only left it in the sun for a few hours, but I also put my sunscreen laden hands all over it. Yuck. Talk about a mess. Apparently the oils from my fingers+the sun's 100degree rays+the greasy sunscreen=one heck of a mess. My water bottle has died the great die. *moment of silence* Long live the pink water bottle.

Jeez, Kaitlyn, ramblerambleramble. The point is that I wanted to buy some whipped cream in order to create the awesome sundaes I had at work; I needed a new water bottle because I get dehydrated easily and mine passed on; and I needed a new makeup bag (special thanks to Jessica's stinky Leonardo for chewing the zipper on my previous one). ;) So I went to Target after work today with my brother and bought the essentials....

And apparently got sidetracked by the new Hey Monday CD.
It just jumped into my hands, I swear!

Isn't it pretty?
I was considering getting a glass bottle but after dropping the plastic one three times while viewing it in the store, erred on the side of plastic. Not that I'm at all clumsy. Or anything. ;)

Enough of that. For now.
haha.

I'm excited to start the new year both at school and work. Hopefully things continue going well.

Did you do anything exciting this week?

Happy Wednesday!

Today's Song: "Lagrimas" by J.D. Natasha. I've been in looovvveee with this song since my best friend eva showed it to me in high school. This song is so incredible. Natasha is clearly a very talented artist. And the video? Wow.

How stinkin' awesome is this guy?
Well...I think he's pretty swell. Enough so that
Jonsi is my most current musical crush.
I just bet he'd be amazing to see live.

I especially love this one:
"Animal Arithmetic"

Isn't he great?

Happy Tuesday!! :)

I've been in love with Hanson, admittedly, since MMMbop first found its way into my adolescent life. Yes, THAT Hanson.

I was so caught up in the rush. For real, these guys were to die for. The lyrics, the songs, the hair!! I just couldn't help it. :)

After they fell off the radar for a while, I found myself quite overcome. And then came This Time Around. I was then convinced that there would be no stopping these guys. They had staying power.

And they have yet to disappoint me. Listening to them brings back a lot of happy memories. Their songs make me happy.

This song is my current fave from their newest album "Shout it Out." It...makes me want to dance. And sing and jump for joy! :)

"Thinking 'Bout Somethin'"

I'm sure I'm not the only one? ;)
Right?
haha.
I hope everyone's having a great week.

We're All Entitled To 'Em

*Please note: this post is kinda all over the place.*

I've never been a huge shopping kind of girl. Wait. Scratch that. I have been. In high school when I wanted so badly to find my place and to make my "mark" with fashion. Then, yes, I was definitely really into shopping. The past few years I've slowed down a bit though, trying to make more of a statement with quality rather than with quantity.

This summer I've really cut down on the shopping and spending. I'm trying to save for lots of things more important than new shoes/clothes/accessories might be. And, overall, I've been successful. :)

I made it my goal to only buy WOW pieces. Clothes that would make me feel good in them, didn't cost a lot, and I knew would fit into my wardrobe. Oh. And they had to look damn good on me. ;) Otherwise I wouldn't even consider them.

I bought, in all, less than 20 things? More or less. I mean, I haven't counted or anything but I know it's around that number. And everything I bought was something that I could wear in the sweltering heat without layering (huge deal in Texas, HUGE) and something in a color that wouldn't absorb the sun's 'friendly' rays.

The pieces pictured here are some of my favorites that I bought this summer. Not pictured are some of the amazing shorts/shoes/purse/bathing suit that also found their ways into my life. But...you get the gist. ;)

Well, that's enough of that ramble! Did any of you all get anything extra special this summer? Or somethingS special? Not that I know anything about buying in bulk. ;)

Oh! I almost forgot! My sister Jessica told me today (after some quality facebook time) that apparently I am "the winky- face bandit". As in I use smiley/winking faces a LOT. Which, after looking back over this post I might just have to agree with. ;) <----Look! There it is again! Do any of you have that 'problem' too?

And now...I'm off to eat some more meltaway cookies that my sissies made just for me. Haha. Well, that's what I keep trying to convince them of anyways....

Song for the Day: King of Anything by Sara Bareilles. I love this one sooo much x a gazillion. It's stuck.in.my.head. For real. :) I woke up 'thinking' it.

Bye for now!

Happy Friday!!

xoxo

P.S. Thank you Callie for taking today's pictures! You're super fantastic!

Tuesday Tunes

I first heard of Brooke Fraser after I stumbled across these lyrics one day:

Oh can you feel the gravity falling, calling us home?
Oh, did you see the stars colliding, shining just to show we belong?
We belong.

After seeing that I just had to look her up.

Boom!

Instant love.
Now, I turn to her when I need something soft and beautiful and inspiring to listen to. Which has been a lot this past few months, let me tell ya.

I've spent a lot of time listening to her and you should too! :)

My faves:

"Deciphering Me"

"C.S. Lewis Song"

and "Love is Waiting"

So...watcha think?

Happy Tuesday!

Right now I am completely, totally, and utterly loving
Kate Miller-Heidke.

And her music has been playing here constantly.

Not only is she an extremely amazing singer, but she is also unique, real, and true to herself. I seriously loved her the moment I first heard her. And I do realize I seem to say that a lot on here...hmmm. I guess I just know when I love something/someone? It's a good thing, right?

Anyways, her voice is mesmerizing.

My current faves:

"Caught in the Crowd"

and "Last Day on Earth"

What do you think? Have/had you ever heard of her before?

I hope everyone is having a great week. I'm just swimming along here. Literally. I spend so much time at the neighborhood pool/tennis courts (with the kids I watch) that I feel like I missed my calling in life. I should have been a fish. ;)

Happy Tuesday!

All We Need Is Right Here Inside Us All

How is it possible that I've never heard this song before today? And I thought myself a Story Of The Year fan! ;)

*click*

Now the damage has been done
And this machine has begun on a path of destruction
We need the medicine
To reverse what's been done
Before this disease has destroyed everything we know
EVERYTHING WE KNOW!

All we need is a reason (All we need is a reason)
All we need is right here inside us all

With our weapons drawn and all our resources gone
We're facing extinction
The only antidote consists of blood, sweat, and hope
And a blueprint to save us from all that we've become
ALL THAT WE'VE BECOME!

All we need is a reason (All we need is a reason)
All we need is right here inside us all
All we need is a reason (All we need is a reason)
All we need is right here inside us
Here inside us all!

Yeah!
Oh

Now the gears they will fail to turn
As the lights go out
And the sun will be all that burns on our way down
(On our way down)
But right now we have to understand the problem
AND OVERCOME!

So arm yourself
You'll mind your gun
It's time to learn
Accept what's done, and yeah
REPAIR THIS DESTRUCTION!

ALL WE NEED IS A REASON
ALL WE NEED IS RIGHT HERE INSIDE US
All we need is a reason (All we need is a reason)
All we need is right here inside us all
All we need is a reason (All we need is a reason)
All we need is right here inside us all
(All we need is a reason)
All we need is a reason
(All we need is a reason)
Whoooaaaa
(All we need is a reason)
All we need is a reason
All we need is right here inside us
Here inside us all!

It's pretty legit...

Happy Sunday!

I absolutely love
A Fine Frenzy.

Her voice enthralls me, her lyrics inspire me, and her melodies make me feel.

She is the complete package as far as singer/songwriters go, in my opinion. I fell in love with her about three years ago and it has remained an ongoing affair. I just...can't seem to get enough of her.

*Note: this is just a sampling of her music. If you find yourself as in awe as I am/was, please feel free to listen to her albums in their entirety. You won't regret it. :)

Three of my favorite faves:

"Ashes and Wine"

"You Picked Me"

And "Almost Lover"

Pleasepleaseplease look her up! Share the love!

So what do you think?

I hope everyone is having a good week so far. Mine is going fantastically. ;)

Happy Tuesday!

Tuesday Tunes

I feel slightly ashamed to admit it...but...
I have a huge crush on The Ready Set.

There I said it.
Whew! Weight off my chest ;).

And, please understand that when I say crush, I mean it in the broadest of terms. I do not cyberstalk him (much) and I do not fantasize about meeting him in person.

And if you believe that, I have an ocean- front property in Arizona for you to see...

I just love his music.

well and him too, of course. haha.

I saw him perform this past May at Bamboozle and let me just say, he was amazing live and he didn't let me down during his performance :).

If you're never heard of him (or his friends) you should definitely look him up if you're into pop-py/alternative/electronic-ish music at all.

Which, erm... I am.

My current faves include:

"Love Like Woe"

^^(all time fave)^^

"Stays Four the Same"

and

"Solar Flares"

And to make things even better (as if that were possible) he will be in Austin this summer. So I can see him...again.

Well, I'm excited anyways. :P

How have you guys been? What do you think of him/his music?

I hope you all are well! Happy Tuesday!

xoxo
