Because we can,can,can.

{via}

Currently I'm:
writing my history paper;
dreaming of the end of the semester;
listening to this song;
and thinking over everything that happened the past few days.

THERE'S AN END IN SIGHT.
whew.

Wave as you drive by, the world is such a beautiful place.

{my sisters and I at the Jonsi concert}

Oh my gosh!
I've been soooo busy it's not even funny. Between work, school, and trying to maintain a social life, I really haven't had that much free time in which to do anything extra...like blogging. So yeah, I've been a little MIA. But...it happens to the best of us? ;)

Although I have been enormously busy, I've also managed to do some really fun stuff this past couple of months.

Some of my favorite things I've done include:

  1. getting to to go see Jonsi. Live. In concert. In Austin. With my two sisters. In two words, that show was life- changing. Seriously one of the best shows I've ever been to. :)
  2. spending lots of time with my friends just being ourselves. I'm extremely lucky to have them all in my life and I've been sure to tell them all when we've gone out.
  3. being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa (and attending the ceremony accompanying it). It was beautiful.
  4. seeing Cirque du Soleil live this past weekend. Afterwards, I got to spend time with my mom and sisters, eat French food, do some shopping, and just enjoy. It was wonderful.
  5. reading some new books. Even though I really didn't have time to do it. ;)
  6. walking in the Memory Walk for Alzheimer's. I joined my school's team and wore my shirt with pride as I walked for my grandfather.
  7. getting caught up on Modern Family with my sister Jessica. She makes it even funnier.
  8. seeing my sister Callie occasionally at school. She makes me smile.
  9. spending time just talking to my momma and dad. I can still learn so much from them.
  10. watching early morning cartoons with my little brother. He's so darn funny sometimes and doing this with him brings back memories of when I was a kid.
  11. talking with my best friend on the phone again! Because...she's back in the states again and it's easier now. Yay!
  12. taking a road trip up North with my family to watch the leaves change.
  13. going on another archaeological dig with the club I'm part of at school.
  14. listening to some really great music.
  15. eating some really great food.
  16. continuing my Starbucks obsession.
  17. running outside when the wind is blowing the leaves everywhere.
  18. and getting lots of puppy and kitten kisses...from all of our pets. :)

I'm still trying to wade through school and the application process (bureaucracy at its finest, I swear) but there is a light in sight. Ha! I just rhymed. ;) Jeeezzzz. I need to go finish doing my laundry...blahh.

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! I certainly did. :) I've missed you all and am going to try and catch up on all the blogs I've been missing quite soon. The next two weeks are going to be crazy though so no promises. :/ See you all soon!

Happy Sunday!

Much Love Monday

I happen to absolutely love my JOB. I get to spend the whole day outside, playing with little boys. Those boys are all like my own little adopted family...and I love my coworkers.

{via}
I mean...I get to have conversations like this all day:

John- "Ms. Kaitlyn, I can speak German."
Me- "Oh really, John? That's awesome. Say something to me."
John- "askicultulirlhnot."
Me- "Um...John, that's not German."
John- "Uhhhhh..."
Me- "I've lived in Germany."
John (with the most mischievous little smile on his face)- "Oh I know. I was testing you."
Me- "Oh, so I passed?"
John- "Yes..."
"And that was penguin, by the way. Before. Just so you know."

;) and he was completely serious.

Happy Monday!

up where they walk, up where they run, up where they stay all day in the sun...

ugh...no time really.

Currently, my life has been a little like this:
  • working all week
  • babysitting (when I get off work)
  • crashing at home
  • eating when I remember
  • and trying to stay up with school.
I'm a busy little bee over here.

Hopefully I'll be able to resume blogging some time in the near future. :)

In the meantime, please enjoy this beautiful song:

Forget all the things I should have said...

I totally saw this on paris lives here's blog...and wanted to take part to! So, here goes...
{Photo by Dave Tuttle - via weheartit}

My Autumn List:

  • Find some extra crunchy leaves and walk slowly through them
  • Drink exorbitant amounts of cinnamon-y tea (Fall in a cup, you understand)
  • Attend at least one local concert
  • Wear my hand knitted scarves with pride!
  • Take bike rides when it's extra crisp out
  • Run early in the morning
  • Make/eat caramel apples
  • Carve a pumpkin, like I used to when I was little
  • Make pumpkin pie
  • Seek out every opportunity to be outdoors and enjoy the wind blowing through my hairrrr

I think that's a good start for now.

AAHHH! It's FALL.

So excited, still.

Happy Sunday, loves.

Oh No!

This song always makes me stop, think, and re-evaluate the way I'm living my life.

That's pretty powerful, no?

Don't do love, don't do friends
I'm only after a success
Don't need a relationship
I'll never soften my grip

Don't want cash don't want card
Want it fast want it hard
Don't need money
Don't need fame

I just wanna make a change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change
I just wanna change

I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!

One track mind, one track heart
If I fail, I'll fall apart
Maybe it is all a test
Cause I feel like I'm the worst,
So I always act like I'm the best
If you are not very careful
Your possessions will possess you
TV taught me how to feel
Now real life has no appeal
it has not appeal

I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!

I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!

I'm gonna live I'm gonna fly
I'm gonna fail I'm gonna die
I'm gonna live I'm gonna fly
I'm gonna fail I'm gonna die die die die

I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!

I know exactly what I want and who I want to be
I know exactly why I walk and talk like a machine
I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!
Oh, Oh no! Oh no! Oh No-oh!

Happy Wednesday!

C'mon get happy

I'm happy today because:
  • Fall is in the air. Soon I can start wearing layers again...yay! :)
  • Today I got to spend some much needed time with my sisters. I feel like I hardly see them anymore so this was a nice change.
  • It's raining outside. And I don't have to be anywhere, so I can lounge around in my pajamas and drink tea. *happiness*
  • My car's sun roof is no longer leaking. Commence with the happy dance... ;)
  • I'm caught up on my homework.
  • I got to eat lunch with my mama three times this week. I love when that happens.
  • My new TOMS came in the mail yesterday.
  • Things are going well at work still and /as/a/result/ I have money in the bank.
  • I have been spending lots of time snuggling with my kitties and puppies.
  • AND I discovered this song:

Things are looking up!

Happy Saturday!

Yes, I do in fact listen to "catchy" and "popular" music. As long as it's good...

So, yeah. I had THE hugest musical crush on Nelly in middle school. It's partly because of the environment I spent time in (school, friends, the YS) but also because he's just so darned catchy. And musically talented. haha. Hey, now! No hatin'! ;) I heard his newest song on our local Mix Station a few weeks ago and flipped out, I mean flipped out (and maybe slightly swerved. a little. because I was driving XP). I was so excited! I turned up the radio as loud as I could and experienced complete happiness as I realized that yes, indeed, his newest hit was in fact worth bragging about!

And now because I really feel the need, you can listen to him too. :)

Ahhhhh.

So perfect.

So perfect.

And...yes. I can in fact sing his older songs from memory. Just in case you were wondering? ;)

Happy Wednesday!

My sister Callie first introduced me to this fabulous duo a few years back. And yes, I must admit that during that "punk rock stage of my life," the talented and hauntingly beautiful First Aid Kit just really wasn't doing it for me.

But now?
I... can't get enough of them.
They're sisters too. :)
How cool is that?

One of my favorites ever:
"I Met Up With The King"

And another of my favorites (live too):
"In The Morning"

So watcha think?

I hope you're all having a great week.

Drumroll, please!

Presenting my Swap Gift!
dundundun
Waaayyyy back at the beginning of summer, my sister Callie decided to host the Crafty Goodness Swap in honor of doing creative things during the summer months.
I quickly signed up because I thought it sounded pretty fun.
Man, am I glad I signed up!
I mean, just look at all the great things I received from My Lady Abercrombie!
AAHH!
I actually received the gifts a while back (sorry Melani!) but have been so busy I just haven't felt I've had the time to adequately post about it all.
I'm so excited. :)
I got:
  1. a starfish - to add to my collection
  2. two handmade necklaces - starfish and ocean inspired, of course. (are ya sensing a theme here? I love love love them. :) )
  3. a Monet printed card (another love of mine)
  4. vintagey news- ads (as wrapping! how fun!)
  5. and vintage lace! (once again, as wrapping! jeez, this lady is pretty creative. :) )

Aren't my gifts fab?! I love them all! Thank you so much Melani for making it such a personalized and fantastic gift! I've already put all of it to good use. Especially my starfish. Which is now resting in my "seaside jar."

^See.^
I had a lot of fun making my gift too (which I shipped out a few weeks ago too).
Hopefully it brings as much joy to my partner as I received from mine.

Today's Song: "Stars" by The Cranberries. Love this song. Love this band. Enough said. Enjoy!

I hope ya'll are having a great Labor Day weekend.
I know I am.
Talk to ya soon...

Celebrate my life

[post-dancing, my friend Jennie and me]

As most of you know, I just started my new job last week. Well, this week marked the first week of "officially" working with the kiddos, in more of a classroom setting. Basically, my job is awesome. You can be jealous; it's okay. ;)

I've been really busy the past two weeks what with starting my new job, ending my old job, getting ready for school, starting school, and trying to also maintain a bit of a social life.

The past two weeks were a little like this:
  • Swimming, swimming, and more swimming
  • Swing dancing to some live jazz downtown (see photo :])
  • Homemade spaghetti dinner with my coworkers at their apartment- yum!
  • Lunch with my boss and coworkers (surprisingly really fun)
  • Enjoying the last of the summer sun
  • Getting a slight sunburn because of said summer sun
  • Lots of iced chais
  • Lots of chocolate
  • Finding some great sales and buying cute things
  • Buying my very first car!! (with my own money)
  • Driving my very first car
  • Fixing up my very first car (thanks, Dad!)
  • Registering my very first car with the tax office (yikes!)
  • Getting to know some fantastic boys at work :) (I love my job)
  • Spending some time with my good friend, R
  • Scott Pilgrim with R for his birthday
  • Girls night out with my sisters: French food and Eat Pray Love :)
  • Starting classes
  • Surviving my first week of classes
  • Freckle multiplication
  • And listening to loads of great music

That's pretty much what's been going on here with me, Baloney.

What have you all been up to? Anything fun?

It's time to hit the hay now, but first...

Today's Song: "Someday" by Sugar Ray. Seriously, I'm a 90's rock kinda girl. Probably because I grew up listening to this music? And this song just fits right now.

Happy Friday!

Have a great weekend all.

See you soon.

Maybe this time

I started working at my "real" job this week.

I'll be working as a recess monitor, teacher's aide, and after school provider at a private all boys school here in town.
Which is apparently a good thing because, as you can see, I get along so well with my friend J.T. ;).
I've spent a lot of my young adult life working with kids professionally and as an on-the-side kind of job (like this summer). When my cousin-in-law informed me that the school she had just gotten hired at was still looking for workers I jumped at the opportunity. I contacted the provider, was interviewed, and got hired almost on the spot. That was back in May.

So I've had the whole summer to think and stress about this job. Which, apparently, was all for nothing. The past two days have been great. The staff is like one huge family and everyone has been incredibly helpful and understanding as I've been trying to find my way. I really like the team that I'm going to be working with too. And the food. Oh, gosh. The food. It's all homemade. Which in itself is incredible. They also have a full vegetarian option for the staff (another plus). And yesterday they served ice cream sundaes to kick off the school year!! Yuuuummmm. If the first few hours at work hadn't convinced me how lucky I was to have this job, the ice cream definitely would have won me over alone. But I digress. I didn't get on here to gush about my job (or did I?). ;)

*subject change* I almost never carry prepackaged water bottles with me. It's such an unnecessary waste in my opinion, of both money and natural resources to purchase those bottles on a regular basis. Anyways, this past weekend I took my large pink plastic bottle out in the sun with me. Boy, was that a mistake. I mean, it might not have been that bad, had I not only left it in the sun for a few hours, but I also put my sunscreen laden hands all over it. Yuck. Talk about a mess. Apparently the oils from my fingers+the sun's 100degree rays+the greasy sunscreen=one heck of a mess. My water bottle has died the great die. *moment of silence* Long live the pink water bottle.

Jeez, Kaitlyn, ramblerambleramble. The point is that I wanted to buy some whipped cream in order to create the awesome sundaes I had at work; I needed a new water bottle because I get dehydrated easily and mine passed on; and I needed a new makeup bag (special thanks to Jessica's stinky Leonardo for chewing the zipper on my previous one). ;) So I went to Target after work today with my brother and bought the essentials....

And apparently got sidetracked by the new Hey Monday CD.
It just jumped into my hands, I swear!

Isn't it pretty?
I was considering getting a glass bottle but after dropping the plastic one three times while viewing it in the store, erred on the side of plastic. Not that I'm at all clumsy. Or anything. ;)

Enough of that. For now.
haha.

I'm excited to start the new year both at school and work. Hopefully things continue going well.

Did you do anything exciting this week?

Happy Wednesday!

There's a shadow, you can't see my eyes...

This is like my summer time 2010 song.

Of course it's Regina's. Apparently she's my current inspiration/infatuation.

I seem to go through singers/bands at a pretty fast rate. I'm constantly breathing in their lyrics, dancing to their songs, and feeling life-changed after constant replays. But there are certain ones that I obsess over for months at a time, constantly, constantly, constantly, playing them over and over and over and over again. I don't know if that's considered "healthy" (or whatever) but that's just me. Then after some time goes by I'm ready for something new and I have to have it immediately. I mean I always come back to my faves but I guess, after obsessing for quite so long I need a break? And I don't really see any of that changing anytime soon. So sorry, to all those who know me personally and have to drive around with me as I unabashedly sing along to what I most love. For now, anyways. Next week? It might be someone different. ;)

How's everyone doing? I've missed you all.

Happy Wednesday!

Just You Wait And See

A few weeks back, Mariella gave me this super duper award, and, sadly, I just realized that I never posted about it! So here goes...

The rules are to describe where you see yourself 10 years from now.

Considering, first, that in 10 years I will be 31, this paragraph is slightly daunting in nature. ;) I'm not really sure, but in 10 years I'd like to see myself finally pretty settled. I'd love to be married already with kids, happy. I'd love to be working in a museum and/or teaching on the side, but I'd love to also be a stay at home mom, at least while my kids are young. I'll still be in close contact with my family, that won't ever change. I'll be living in my own home. I'd love to also be travelling regularly. And I'd still be living each day to the fullest. :)

Thanks again Mariella for the award. It was pretty fun trying to think this one through. :)

I'd like to pass this one on to all of my followers. You guys are great.

Today's Song: "Pickpocket" by Kate Nash. I seriously heart Kate Nash. And this song, too, as with all of her songs, never fails to move me.

Happy Sunday!

Oh, send the sunshine down to me.

I feel like sometimes life gets in the way. I have so many things to be thankful for, really, I do. But at times, when I'm all alone (especially late at night) I start thinking. In this thinking time, I ask a lot of rhetorical questions about my life.

Where am I going? What am I planning? Will I be okay?

And asking these questions really doesn't help me that much. All it ever does is make me insecure in the place that I am now.

Things are going exactly the way they are supposed to be going. I just need to focus on where I am right now.

Deep breaths, Kaitlyn. You'll get through this too.

Today's song: "Impossible" by the talented Shontelle. I love this song.

Tuesday Tunes

I've been in love with Hanson, admittedly, since MMMbop first found its way into my adolescent life. Yes, THAT Hanson.

I was so caught up in the rush. For real, these guys were to die for. The lyrics, the songs, the hair!! I just couldn't help it. :)

After they fell off the radar for a while, I found myself quite overcome. And then came This Time Around. I was then convinced that there would be no stopping these guys. They had staying power.

And they have yet to disappoint me. Listening to them brings back a lot of happy memories. Their songs make me happy.

This song is my current fave from their newest album "Shout it Out." It...makes me want to dance. And sing and jump for joy! :)

"Thinking 'Bout Somethin'"

We're All Entitled To 'Em

*Please note: this post is kinda all over the place.*

I've never been a huge shopping kind of girl. Wait. Scratch that. I have been. In high school when I wanted so badly to find my place and to make my "mark" with fashion. Then, yes, I was definitely really into shopping. The past few years I've slowed down a bit though, trying to make more of a statement with quality rather than with quantity.

This summer I've really cut down on the shopping and spending. I'm trying to save for lots of things more important than new shoes/clothes/accessories might be. And, overall, I've been successful. :)

I made it my goal to only buy WOW pieces. Clothes that would make me feel good in them, didn't cost a lot, and I knew would fit into my wardrobe. Oh. And they had to look damn good on me. ;) Otherwise I wouldn't even consider them.

I bought, in all, less than 20 things? More or less. I mean, I haven't counted or anything but I know it's around that number. And everything I bought was something that I could wear in the sweltering heat without layering (huge deal in Texas, HUGE) and something in a color that wouldn't absorb the sun's 'friendly' rays.

The pieces pictured here are some of my favorites that I bought this summer. Not pictured are some of the amazing shorts/shoes/purse/bathing suit that also found their ways into my life. But...you get the gist. ;)

Well, that's enough of that ramble! Did any of you all get anything extra special this summer? Or somethingS special? Not that I know anything about buying in bulk. ;)

Oh! I almost forgot! My sister Jessica told me today (after some quality facebook time) that apparently I am "the winky- face bandit". As in I use smiley/winking faces a LOT. Which, after looking back over this post I might just have to agree with. ;) <----Look! There it is again! Do any of you have that 'problem' too?

And now...I'm off to eat some more meltaway cookies that my sissies made just for me. Haha. Well, that's what I keep trying to convince them of anyways....

Song for the Day: King of Anything by Sara Bareilles. I love this one sooo much x a gazillion. It's stuck.in.my.head. For real. :) I woke up 'thinking' it.

Bye for now!

Happy Friday!!

First Approaching Is The Day

Hey guys! Guess what?!

I just got back from vacation!
And oh boy, was it fun.

My family and I decided that this summer we should be loyal little Texas citizens (which is in itself an oxymoron) and spend our vacation seeing some of the local sights. I'm actually pretty glad that we did that this time. Texas is such a HUGE state I don't think it's even possible to see it all. Even in the expanse of a lifetime.

Not to mention the fact that I haven't really seen that much of my home state. I know, I know. Shame, shame. ;) But, really, my life has been almost split up between living here and living in Germany. And I've been busy with school and work and family and friends and...life! I haven't really had a chance to do as much sight seeing here as I would have liked. I feel like I need to get caught up on all there is to see here (a bit) before I attempt to travel anywhere else in the whole wide world. Just a thought anyways.

Oh! You know how they say "everything's bigger in Texas"?
Well...
it's true. :)

I hope you all have been doing well since the last time we spoke. Here. Through the blogosphere. I've missed you all and I really need to get caught up on everything. Yikes.

Talk to ya'll soon!

Happy Wednesday!

xoxo
